The Science Behind Energy and Focus
Our energy level is affected by everything we do. The most important factors that determine our energy level is the amount of sleep we get, the food we eat and our stress level. When optimizing your energy level you want to address these pillars first as slightly adjusting these can increase your energy and focus in the long run. However, in the process of finding your own balance there might be situations where you need that little extra energy and focus.
Nature offers plenty of natural ingredients that can help you achieve this. From probiotics to powders with adaptogens and natural stimulants. Remember to take these supplements in the morning to support a day of creativity, focus and resilience. We have curated a collection of products that helps you on your holistic journey towards balance, energy and focus.
Our scientific advisor, Dr Julie Moltke gives her best advice to keep your energy levels up:
Get enough hours sleep: One of the first things to look at if you are feeling fatigued with low energy levels is your sleep pattern. Most people need between 7-9 hours of sleep and if you are getting less than that while feeling tired and drowsy when you wake up, fixing your sleep is the first place to start.

Food is fuel: If you are often feeling tired and sluggish after eating, the chances are high that you are not eating the right for your body. You should eat 3-5 meals per day of moderate size depending on your metabolism. Stay away from processed, fast-food as simple carbs, refined sugar and high levels of animal fats are associated with fatigue and sluggishness after eating. Stick to wholefoods, grains and lots of fruits and vegetables and remember to drink plenty of water too; dehydration makes you tired.
Exercise to increase energy: Exercise is generally known to help increase energy levels. Even though you might feel tired just after a vigorous work-out it overall helps you to feel more focused and energized. Research shows that a 10 minute brisk walk is even a better pick me up than a snack or a coffee.
Meditate to boost your energy: One of the most effective and researched techniques for reducing stress and increasing focus and energy levels is meditation. There are many approaches to this but what meditation really does is giving you a short break in a busy life where you do absolutely nothing but watching your thoughts, emotions and bodily sensations as they come and go.
Avoid alcohol: Do you know the feeling of being hungover on day 2 after a night out? This is a great proof of what alcohol does to the body. It interferes with your sleeping pattern and creates toxic waste products your body needs to deal with making you feel tired, fatigued and moody. You might have to consider whether the weekend's binge drinking can be exchanged for one nice cocktail and then change to virgin drinks. It might even save you a few pounds at the end of the day.
Get your supplements right: There are certain food supplements and herbs that can help increase your energy levels naturally and as part of a holistic lifestyle. Natural ingredients like ginseng, taurine, green tea extracts, B-vitamins, spirulina, guarana, rhodiola rosea extract, ginkgo biloba and caffeine can help increase energy levels. Make sure to take these supplements in the morning so as to not interfere with your sleep patterns.
