The CBD industry is one of the fastest growing industries in the world. Millions of people have discovered both the benefits, as well as the potential to mislead people, who are looking for natural solutions. In this blog post, we will dive into the most common myths about CBD – and debunk them.

Myth 1: CBD can get you high

Due to the confusion about the cannabis plant and its various compounds, many people are still unsure whether CBD is legal or not. As mentioned earlier, THC is the only psychoactive component within the cannabis plant. This is why the UK government has set a limit of 0.2% for THC in cannabis products – anything over this percentage is illegal.

Before you purchase any CBD products in the UK, it’s important to make sure that the vendor is aware of and in line with this limit. By default, this means that any full-spectrum oils are illegal as well. CBD on its own however is legal in the UK.

Myth 3: Effects of CBD are noticeable immediately

Depending on how you take CBD, the effects will be noticeable at different times. The quickest way to get CBD into your system, is by letting it absorb under your tongue. An edible, on the other hand, will have to be digested first and therefore takes a bit longer. However, the industry is working on new methods to make the effect of CBD more efficient, so maybe one day we will have certain products that are indeed noticeable immediately.

The effects of CBD also very much depend on the individual. Every human has their own endocannabinoid system in their body, which interacts with CBD. Some people’s endocannabinoid system may need more support than others, and it also depends on lifestyle, environmental, and genetic factors. CBD also acts as an adaptogen, it naturally works different for everybody, as it adapts to their needs.

Therefore, no, effects of CBD are currently not immediate, and it will not work the same for everyone either.

Myth 4: CBD can cure everything

Up until very recently, the CBD industry wasn’t regulated at all, which is why vendors and producers were able to make claims about the efficacy of their products without any consequences. Luckily this is changing, however many people still believe in the myth of CBD being able to cure everything.

As mentioned before, CBD is an adaptogen and is indeed able to adapt to different needs, however that doesn’t mean it can cure everything.

Most people use CBD to help them relax, sleep better, or ease discomfort. Anything further is going into speculation, as there have not been that many peer-reviewed, controlled studies in the UK to confirm the effectiveness of CBD for medical treatment.

Myth 5: There is no clinical research for CBD

On the other side of the spectrum there are many sceptics, denying any efficacy in CBD products. While there definitely is room for growth in terms of the amount of clinical research, there also have been isolated studies that confirmed its effectiveness.

At the end of the day, the responsibility lies within the consumer; if you are trying to treat a medical condition, you should always speak to your GP or a health professional first.

Unless you’re on other medication (in which case you should also check with your doctor first), it’s always worth trying CBD and see if it works for you, but it’s also important not to put all of your expectations into this natural supplement.
